1643 - Charles I, Peace or War SOLD

This original silver medal by Thomas Rawlins commemorates the views of Charles I after the defeat of the Parliamentarian Sir William Waller and the reduction of Bristol, when he summoned a council "to consider how these great blessings in war might be applied to procuring a happy peace" (MI i 308/134). In 1643, Prince Rupert gained two important victories in the Battle of Roundway Down (July 10-13) and in seizing Bristol (July 15-26). The diameter is 29 mm and the condition Extremely Fine. This medal has been SOLD.
