1713- Peace of Utrecht SOLD

This beautiful and very rare silver medal by D. Drappentier commemorates the peace agreement between England and its Allies, and France and Spain at the end of the Spanish war of Succession. The agreement was struck at Utrecht on the 21 March/11 April 1713 (MI ii 402/262). The obverse shows Peace, crowned, locking the door of the Temple of Janus, behind are the globe and cornucopia, in the distance ships; on the steps are War and Discord in chains. The reverse shows Europe seated on the sea-shore holding an olive branch and a cornucopia; in the distance ships and rays from heaven above. The diameter is 48mm and the condition Good Extremely Fine. The tone is exceptional. This is an excellent example of this medal. This medal is sold.
