1596 - Elizabeth I, Alliance betwen England, France and the Unit

This interesting Elizabethan silver medal or counter commemorates the alliance struck between France, England and the Provinces in 1596 (MI i 161/144). Henry IV of France dispatched the Marshal de Bouillion to negotiate the alliance in order to resist Spain in each of the Countries. On the obverse, the medal shows three armed soldiers with their hands upon an altar on which is written incused in Latin "The Liberty of our Countries". The reverse shows an armed soldier pointing to a tablet attached to a column on which is written incused in Latin "The Foundation of our Confederacy, 1596". The diameter is 28 mm and the condition Good Very Fine.
