1679 - Louis XIV: Annexation in Peace Time SOLD

This bronze medal by J Roetties commemorates the annexation of territories by Louis XIV following the Treaty of Nijmegen in 1679. Louis XIV had defeated an alliance of Britain, Holland and Sweden during the war of 1672 - 1678. As a result of the peace treaty, Louis XIV received the Fanche Comte (Burgundy), and sixteen places in the Netherlands from Spain. The reverse of the medal shows Louis XIV seated on a pile of arms placing a laurel over a globe presented to him by Victory. The diameter is 70mm and the condition good very fine. The medal is an original striking. The edge is plane and there are no mint marks. This medal has been sold.
