1754 - Charles Alexander, Duke of Lorraine SOLD

This bronze medal by J. B. Harrewyn commemorates the achievements of Charles Alexander, Duke of Lorraine, as Governor of the Austrian Netherlands in 1754. Charles Alexander married the Archduchess Maria Theresa, daughter of Charles VI of Austria, Bohemia and Hungary, Roman Emperor. He entered the Imperial service in 1737 and was one of the principal Austrian military commanders. He was made joint Governor of the Austrian Netherlands with his wife. The reverse shows emblems of science and warfare under the eye of God. The diameter is 48mm and the condition extremely fine. This is an original striking. The edge is bevelled and there are no mint marks. This medal has been sold.
