1784 - Admiral Pierre Andre de Suffren de Saint Tropez SOLD

This gilt-bronze medal by Augustin Dupre (1748 - 1833), Paris, commemorates the naval victories of Admiral Pierre André de Suffren Saint Tropez, (1729-1788) over the British fleet in the Indian Ocean led by Sir Edward Hughes in 1782-3.The medal is dated 1784. The legend on the reverse reads 'The Cape protected, Trincomalee (Sri Lanka) taken, Goudelour (India) set free, India defended, six glorious battles. The States of Provence have issued this medal'. The diameter is 49mm and the condition EF. This medal has been sold.
