1799 - Sir Sydney Smith, Defence of Acre (Akko, Israel) SOLD

This interesting bronze medals commemorates the defence of Acre (now Akko, Israel) made by Sir Sydney Smith assisted by the Pasha of Acre against the French led by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1799 (BHM 474). The siege lasted two months. The attack was part of Napoleon's attempt to create an empire in the Middle East. The reverse of the medal shows the town of Acre and the bay with British ships in the foreground. The diameter is 38mm and the condition EF. This medal has been SOLD.
