1911 &12 - Exploration: The South Polar Race Medal SOLD

This beautiful silver medal by Danuta Solowiej commemorates the centenary of the epic race to the south pole in 1911 and 1912. The obverse show Roald Amundsen and his Norwegian team who reached the south pole first on the 14th December 1911. The reverse shows Captain F. Scott, RN and his British team who reached the south pole on the 17th January 1912 and died tragically on their return journey. The medal has a satin finish to reflect the ice and snow with incuse legends around the raise and polished edge. The diameter is 60 mm and the medal is contained in a green leather and gilt case. Only one hundred of medals have been issued by the Sim Comfort Associates.
