1672 - The Siege of Groningen SOLD

This rare silver medal commemorates the siege of Groningen, in the Dutch Lowlands, that took place during 1672. The armies of Louis XIV under the command of Marshall Turenne had much success against the Dutch earlier in that year and entered the lowlands. The Dutch flooded the lowlands and stopped the French advance. Simultaneously, the army of the Bishop of Munster attacked Holland and laid siege to the Groningen. The Dutch successfully lifted the siege and later defeated the Munster army. The medal shows scenes of the siege. It is 54 mm diameter and in Good Very Fine condition. This medal ahs been sold.
