1712 - Prize Medal for Diligence by J Dassier SOLD

This silver medal is the prize for diligence distributed by the Geneva Academy in 1711-12. It is one of the earliest medals produced by Jean Dassier. The Obverse shows the Key and Eagle, the heraldic symbols of Geneva. The reverse shows the standing figure of Religion reading aloud from the book of Scripture in her hands. She gazes heavenwards upon the name of God emerging from the clouds. Upon hearing her voice, Instruction raise from her tomb and from her breast pours forth the milk of Science. In the background is a temple. The diameter is 43mm and medal has a contemporary loop for suspension. It is very rare.
