1723 - Celebrated Men of the Reign of Louis XIV by Jean Dassier

These bronze medals are from the Galerie Metallique des Grand Hommes du siecle de Louis XIV (Celebrated Men of the Reign of Louis XIV) by Jean Dassie. They were issued in 1723. The series of 74 medals made Jean Dassier, Chief Engraver at the Genovese mint, famous throughout Europe. There are two main types of designs for the reverse – both have a monument and either a reclining figure or two putti. Each medal is 28mm diameter.
