1731 - Richard III by Jean Dassier SOLD

This extremely rare medal in damascened bronze of Richard III (1483 - 1485) by Jean Dassier was issued as a part of the Kings and Queens of England set in 1731 (MI i 19/1). The set contained 34 medals and was issued at the request of the Royal Society of London. Damascened bronze medals were the most expensive issued by Jean Dassier, the cost being due to the large amount of handwork involve in their manufacture. They were only presented to "princely clients". The set presented to George II is currently in the British Museum. The diameter is 41mm and the condition EF.
