1749 - The Geneva Reformation by Jean Dassier

This rare and impressive large bronze medal commemorates the state of Geneva after the Reformation and troubles earlier in the eighteenth century (Eisler 105/23). The obverse shows an aerial view of the lake and Geneva. The reverse depicts the seated figure of Religion surrounded by putti, citizens of Geneva engaged in various trades, with the river Gods Rhone (left) and Arve (right) high in the mountains on either side. The legend HAEC OTIA FECIT (from Virgil) reads "O Meliboeus, it is a god who wrought for us this peace". The diameter is 68mm and the condition better than EF.
