1753 - Baron de Montesquieu SOLD

This bronze medal by Jacques-Antoine Dassier commemorates the life and work of Charles de Secondat, Baron of Brede and of Montesquieu. The medal was taken from real life and struck in 1753 (Eisler373/1). It is one of the final and some would say finest works by Jacques-Antoine. The reverse shows the glowing sun radiating the light of Truth before the eyed of Justice. Referring to Montesquieu's belief in the separation of civil and religious laws and in freedom of personal belief. The diameter is 60mm and the condition EF. This medal has been sold.
