1741 - Alexander Pope, Poet

This bronze medal by Jacques-Antoine Dassier commemorates the work of Alexander Pope (1688 - 1741), a famous 18th century Poet (MI ii 565/198). He is best known for his satirical verse, as well as for his translation of Homer. Famous for his use of the heroic couplet, Alexander Pope is the second-most frequently quoted writer in The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations, after Shakespeare. The diameter is 55 mm and the condition Extremely Fine.
