1591 - Trinity College, Dublin, Gold Medal SOLD

This very rare 9 carat gold medal by Woodhouse commemorates the founding of Trinity College, Dublin, in 1591 (MI i 158/138). It shows the half-length figure of Queen Elizabeth I, the founder, and on the reverse the Arms of the College. The medal was awarded at various times by the Board of Trinity College from about 1850 to candidates of the first class who showed exceptional merit in degree examinations. This medal was awarded to Edgarus G. J. Boucher in 1940 for merit in logic and ethics examinations. The diameter is 40 mm and the weight 29.7 grams. The medal was hallmarked during 1940 in Dublin and is contained in its original West & Son, The Kings Jewellers, 102 & 103 Grafton Street, Dublin, case. The medal is in Mint condition. This medal has been sold.
