1616 - Memorial to William Shakespeare SOLD

This rare and beautiful silver medal of William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616) by John Westwood was issued in 1821 (BHM 1166). The medal carries the bust of William Shakespeare and on the reverse a figure of a man beneath a tree regarding a stag drinking at a stream; The quotation reads, 'To the which place a poor sequestered stag that from the hunters aim had taken a hurt did come to languish' taken from 'As you like it'. The diameter is 45mm and the condition GEF. The medal has a light tone. This medal has been sold.
