1578 - Mary Queen of Scotland SOLD

This beautiful cast-bronze medal by Jacopo Primavera and Pompeo Leoni is a tribute to Mary, Queen of Scotland, issued at the time the time Elizabeth, Queen of England was recovering from small-pox in 1572 (MI I 118/52). The medal carries the bust of Mary with cap and veil behind falling on to her shoulders, gown buttoned to the throat. The reverse shows a female figure, holding a palm branch, landscape and castle behind. The diameter is 61 mm and the condition Extremely Fine. This medal is a late 18th century restitutional medal and rare. This medal has been sold.
