1545 - Henery VIII, Supreme Head of the Church of England Sold

This very rare medal by Henry Basse acknowledges Henry VIII as supreme head of the Church in England and Ireland (MI i 47/44). The medal carries a draped bust of Henry wearing a cap, the two-lined legend in Latin reads, 'Henry VIII, King of England, France and Ireland, defender of the faith, and under Christ the supreme head on earth of the Church of England and Ireland'. On the reveres there is a similar inscription in Hebrew and Greek. The diameter is 50 mm and the condition Good Very Fine. The medal is a late 18th century restitutional medal, rarely available to the collector. This medal has been sold.
