1879 - 1881 - Australian Exhibitions

This scarce bronze medal by J. S. & A. B. Wyon commemorates the exhibitions held in Australia (then Victoria) between 1879 and 1881: Sydney 1879 - 1880 and Melbourne 1880 - 1881. The exhibitions were modelled on the great exhibitions of Europe, with an aim to promote commerce and industry, along with art, science and education. The Obverse shows a stunning bust of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, eldest son of Queen Victoria and later King Edward VII, President of the Commission. The diameter is 76mm and the condition Extremely Fine.
