1913 - Centenary of the Battle of Lorenzo SOLD

This silvered-bronze medal by J. Guttuzzo commemorates the centenary of the Battle of San Lorenzo in the Argentine War of Independence. The battle took place on the 3rd February 1813. The Realistas, loyal to the Spanish crown, fought the Granaderos a Caballo, cavalry elite unit led by Gereral Jose de San Martin. The obverse shows sergeant Juan Bautista Cabrel giving his life to save San Martin who got trapped under his horse during the battle. The dimensions are 70mm x 70mm and the condition is better than EF. This medal has been sold.
