1738 - Medal of the Mediation SOLD

This historically interesting bronze medal by Jean Dassier commemorates the peace in Geneva and other Swiss states that had been mediated by France in 1738. During the period 1736 - 1738 political crisis had existed in Geneva over the rights of various groups to have a say in the government of the state. In 1738, Jean Dassier, the engraver of this medal, was named as a member of the governing Conseil des Deux-Cents in Geneva. The medal shows Peace to the left of the round altar holding an olive branch and Justice to the right holding the scales and a sword. At their feet lies a prostrate old woman and flaming touch representing Discord. The diameter is 54mm and the condition GEF. This medal has been sold.
