1745 - Jacobite: The Rebels Repulsed SOLD

This very rare gilt-bronze medal by J Taylor, Birmingham, commemorates the repulse of the Scottish rebel army in 1745 (Mi ii 606/264 but by J Taylor). The English Army under the command of the Duke of Cumberland repulsed Prince Charles, the young Pretender and eldest grandson of James II of England, and his army from England the year before the battle of Culloden. The obverse shows the Duke on horseback and the reverse the Duke in Roman dress presenting an olive branch to Anglia. The Duke of Cumberland was the youngest son of George II. This medal is unlisted and rare. The diameter is 36 mm and the condition Extremely Fine. This medal has been sold.
