1734 - Louis Le Fort

This beautiful bronze medal by Jean Dassier commemorates the political leadership given by Louis Le Fort, the premier syndic of Geneva, in 1734. It was modelled from real life. At this time Geneva was embroiled in a revolt between its citizens and bourgeoisie, a conflict over the rights to govern. Le Fort issued the Edict of Pacification in 1734. The medal shows the bust of Le Fort and on the reverse a scene of peace and prosperity. Seated under the watchful eye of Providence, Liberty rests her arm on the shield of Geneva, putti, representing the people of Geneva, carry on their peaceful pursuits of trade. The diameter is 55mm and condition almost Extremely Fine.
