1692 - La Hogue by Muller

This rare silver medal by Philipp Heinrich Muller commemorates the Battle of La Hogue which lasted for six days between 19-24 May 1692 (MI ii 55/251). The combined English and Dutch fleets inflicted a server defeat on the French. The medal shows Neptune with raised trident driving Louis XIV from the marine car, the legend reads, 'Not to him, but to me was the empire allotted'. The reverse shows Victory standing on an antique galley, the legend reads 'It shall hide himself in the waves'. The edge is inscribed. The diameter is 49 mm and condition About Extremely Fine.
