1691 - William III, Congress of the Allies

This rare and impressive silver medal by Philipp Heinrich Muller commemorates the meeting of the congress of allies at the Hague called to arrange plans to resist France in 1691 (MI ii 16/182). The obverse shows Jupiter in the midst of the gods in council; the Latin legend reads, "He conceives in his mind a vast wrath, such as is worthy of Jupiter, and calls together a council". The edge Latin legend reads, "The congress of allied Princes assembled at the Hague, under the presidency of William III., the King of Britain". The reverse shows Courage and Concord in the presence of Prudence around a flaming alter; the Latin legend reads, "By Counsel, Concord and Fortitude". The diameter is 50 mm and condition Extremely Fine. The medal has a good tone.
